Last-Minute Informations

  1. Arrival: Please notify us when and where you will arrive by train. We will have a small shuttle bus available and can pick you up in reasonable groups.
    If you cannot make it till 20:00 on Sunday March 29, don't worry, we'll have the key to the monastery to let you in.
  2. Money: You'll need to bring the registration fee (EUR 150) plus accommodation (normally 5 nights at EUR 55 each) plus money for drinks etc., all in cash.
  3. Weather: At the time of the meeting weather is fairly unpredictable, so best bring winter, rain and spring clothing and, most important, good shoes.
  4. Excursion: We plan to have a walking tour in the surroundings of the monastery, ended by a boat trip through the gorges of the Danube back to the monastery.
    In case of catastrophic weather we may instead go to Regensburg to do some sightseeing.

Venue

The Benedictine abbey of Weltenburg is the oldest monastery in Bavaria and was founded around 600 AD by the monks of St. Columbanus. It is situated near the entrance to the scenic Danube gorge. The baroque church was built by the architect brothers Cosmas Damian Asam and Aegid Quirin Asam from 1716 by order of Maurus Baechl, Abbot of Weltenburg, to 1751.

Travel Information

By Air

The closest airports are Munich and Nürnberg. However to save a stop-over, also Frankfurt can be used.
A Rough map can be found here. Frankfurt lies in the direction of Würzburg.

By Train

From Munich to Abensberg:
Use the line München Hbf - Ingolstadt Hbf - Abensberg.
Trains are expected to run every two hours from 11:22 to 19:22.
The travel time for this line should be roughly 1h 15min.

From Frankfurt or Nürnberg to Abensberg:
Use the line Frankfurt(Main)Hbf - Nürnberg Hbf - Ingolstadt Hbf - Abensberg.
The travel time for this line should be roughly 3h 40min.

Attention: The train schedules may change slightly in mid-December; please check again.

We will try to arrange a shuttle service from Abensberg.

If all else fails, you may also use a train to Regensburg; feel free to contact the organisers for detailed help.

By Car

A detailed route to Kelheim can be found here.
From Kelheim you continue to the monastery. Parking is outside the inner courtyard.

Arrival

You are normally expected to arrive on Sunday, March 29, 2009. On that day the reception will be open between 12:00 and 20:00.
You won't be able to enter the building outside this time window, so please consider that when booking your flight or otherwise planning your journey. But there will be not trains arriving later anyway.

Registration and accommodation

Registration

It is expected that the participants will arrive on Sunday, March 29 and depart on Friday, April 3.
To guarantee a room, please register by January 15, 2009. Fill in the registration form and mail it.

Payment

The registration fee will be 150€ including excursion and banquet.

The monastery will not accept cards. There is a cash machine in the neighbouring town of Kelheim, but it is difficult to get there without a car. We would therefore recommend to have enough cash with you

Accommodation

The meeting will take place at the Benedictine abbey of Weltenburg near Kelheim.

Kloster Weltenburg

There are single rooms with a private shower at 55,00€ per person (full board) and day.
Twin rooms with a private shower are at 50,00€ per person (full board) and day.



On the arrvial day (Sunday March 29) there will be an evening meal at 18:30h with a subsequent informal get-together.
From Monday to Thursday, breakfast will take place at 8h, lunch at 12:10h and dinner at 18:30h.
On Friday there will only be breakfast and lunch at the usual time.
